3rd EU Junior Chess Championship

Impressive appearance for Liodakis Konstantinos who took the second place!

Konstantinos Liodakis of SAX-ANEK LINES made a great tournament, and won the second place in the 3rd EU Junior Chess Championship. The colourful Murek proved an ideal place for this tournament, as the players had the chance to go for a walk or take a ride in the wonderful forest around the town. The fact also that Murek is placed in the heart of Europe (in Austria) contributed to the massive participation, as 110 players from 20 different countries took part in the tournament.

Konstantinos represented Greece in the U10 category, although he is only 9 years-old, and played extremely well against strong opponents. He made 2 wins in the first two games and took the lead in the tournament from the beginning. Finally, he managed to collect 7 points in 9 matches, ranked in the first place, but Nagi from Hungary who also collected 7 points nominated winner of the championship. This success is very important for Greek chess, as for many years it was really difficult for Greek players to succed in tournaments against players from Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and other european countries. Konstantinos proved that he can make this difference, as he had taken the third place in the World Student Chess Championship a few months ago!

In the U12 category, Tsarouha Marianthi of SAX-ANEK LINES represented Greece. Marianthi played well and could take a better position, but she lost in the final round and finally took the fifth place. The fact also that the U12 catecory was a mixed category which included boys and girls in the same tournament, shows that Marianthi played in a strong tournament and that she carried off useful experience.

Trainer of the Greek team and representative of the Greek Chess Federation in the tournament was Tsarouhas Konstantinos, coach of SAX-ANEK LINES.
