Greek Chess League

SAX-ΑΝΕΚ LINES achieved its target and stayed in the League- Great appearance for OAA Iraklion-AO Kydon took the 3rd place!

SAX-ΑΝΕΚ LINES achieved its target and stayed in the Greek Chess League for a second contiguous year, determining that deserves a position among the best teams in Greece. The fact also that the team consists mainly of local and young players (12 of 14 players derive from the city of Chania, specifically from team's educational programmes, and certainly we are talking about the team with the lower average age in Greece) adds significant value to this achievement. The local players are encircled with two great chess players and important personalities, Trabert Bettina (WGM) from Germany and Izoria Zviad (GM) from Georgia, who complement the team with experience and determination in the difficult matches.
The team endeavoured in the second group and collected 8 points, achieving three wins against ΑΟ Sykeon, Papagou and Triandria, two draws against DEH Salonica and Peristeri, and one defeat against OFS Kavala. Special distinction achieved junior wold chess champion Kazakos Manos, who collected 4½ points in five games, winning for a second contiguous year the gold medal in the U12 board! Great appearance also for Katzourakis Pavlos, who made his 1st National Master norm, gathering 6 points in eight matches.

The players who consisted SAX- ΑΝΕΚ LINES were:

Izoria Zviad, Tsarouhas Kostas, Darmarakis Mihalisl, Kalaitzoglou Panagiotis,Katzourakis Pavlos, Trabert Bettina, Tsarouha Menexenia, Hristodoulaki Antonia, Tsarouha Marianthi, Fragakis Stratos, Verikakis Manolis, Mathioulakis Fanis, Kazakos Manos and Lemontzoglou Giannis.

For AO Kydon the target was quite different. The team acquired Hristos Banikas, 2005 Greek Individual Champion, and was claiming for the first place. But while Kydon was the main contender for the championship, the bad results (6-6 draw against AO Papagou, defeat against E.S. Salonica and draw again against OAA Iraklion) put the team early out of competition. In the last round AO Kydon won the champion team S.O. Kavala but nothing could change the final classification, giving the Cretan team the third place. Special distinction achieved Markantonaki Haritomeni who collected 9 points in 9 matches!

The players who consisted AO Kydon were:

Azmaiparasvili Zurab, Papaioannou Giannis, Banikas Hristos, Grivas Stratos, Nikolaidis Giannis, Souleidis Giorgos, Makka Ioulia, Markantonaki Haritomeni, Saulyte Gabriele, Sandalakis Aggelos, Stavrianakis Giannis, Tsialas Panagiotis, Sekadakis Dimitris, Balomenakis Haralampos, and Fragaki Maria. It is obvious from the composition of the team that clubs that want to win the championship must proceed in a significant number of transfers, as only 6 of the total players of AO Kydon are coming from the city of Chania.

OAA Iraklion -the third Cretan team- made an excellent appearance and took the 5th place in the final rank, giving more promises for the future. The club also had undertaken the organization of the League and made a wonderful job, as everyone admitted. Special distinction achieved Georgiadid Giannis who collected 6½ points in 8 matches, the second best performance in his board.

The players who consisted OAA Iraklion were:
Gustafsson Jan, Mihelakis Giorgos, Dembo Yelena, Mastrokoukos Giorgos, Logothetis Sotiris, Papadopoulou Vera, Goutioudi Irini, Iordanidou Zoi, Manolaraki Ivonni, Georgiadis Giannis, Papandreou Giorgos, Fragiadakis Dimitris, Kolomvakis Stelios.
